Labour government faces revolt over Royal Mail privatisation plans
As we covered yesterday, Lord Mandelson has recently released a white paper on the Royal Mail which is set to see Dutch company TNT take a stake in part of the business in what many see as a "privatisation" of the Royal Mail. It has today been revealed that a junior member of the government has resigned in disgust at the Royal Mail plans and what many see as a move away from the left at a time when the government had appeared to be retrenching on old ground.
Now is the time when we need to see a government which is united although over the last few weeks we have seen more and more Labour MPs in conflict with Gordon Brown's policies and a number have voted against Labour policies and commitments in the House of Commons. If this disharmony in the Labour government was to continue it would put in doubt Gordon Brown's ability to push through some of his more controversial policies which he believes will kick start the UK economy but many opposition leaders have their doubts.
Even though Gordon Brown has seen his share of the vote increase since the economic turmoil began in the UK this could all disappear overnight if he mishandles the economy from now on.
