Where are the public sector projects?
Just recently the UK government promised to create in excess of 100,000 jobs in the UK by bringing forward a number of public sector projects including the building of schools and other costly ventures. However, like so many of the government's recent policies and announcements there has been very little follow-through and no indication as to when these projects will be brought forward and any start dates.
Gordon Brown is risking the wrath of the UK public with his constant headline grabbing policy statements which appear to fall flat when the small print is released into the public domain. Some of these policies such as the mortgage relief scheme did actually increase consumer confidence in the short term, with many seeing an end to their financial woes, only to find the scheme has still yet to start and those currently under repossession orders will not be saved. Indeed it is the Northern Rock, a bank which is now owned by the government, which has been more aggressive on the repossession front with a rate roughly twice that of industry average.
All in all the time for talking is over and consumers around the UK are demanding action as soon as possible.
