Is it safe to go back into the stock market?
The UK stock market and the majority of worldwide stock markets have been under severe pressure over the last 12 months although there was something of a worldwide recovery towards the end of 2008. This has probably prompted many investors to ask if it is now time to go back into the UK stock market and start building up a portfolio for the future having seen many prices fall substantially. So is it really the right time to buy?
As with any investment it all comes down to the individual investors strategy, funding and personal circumstances. There is no right and wrong answer to this question and again it is vital that you look to take professional advice regarding your assets and your investments in the future. If you are a long-term investor with money to put away for at least five years then there may be some interesting opportunities although whether you put all of your money in at the same time or drip feed over a number of months is something else to consider.
If you are looking for a short-term investment then these are the types of markets which could make or break you as any short-term investment in any market environment has substantially higher risks than a long-term asset. Everything depends on your personal circumstances, what strategy you would feel happy with and the market as a whole.
