Is this the end of the Apple revolution?
Each and every household across the UK, and in many other parts of the world, will play host to a number of products and gadgets from leading technology group Apple. However, today there is concern about the medium to longer term outlook of Apple after its leading light Steven Jobs announced a need to take six months out of the business to improve his general health.
Steve Jobs did have a cancer scare some years ago and there is concern that the condition may have returned although we await official confirmation as to the exact nature of his withdrawal from the front line. Apple shares were suspended on the NASDAQ market yesterday prior to the announcement and upon the resumption of trading the shares immediately fell by 9%. This is a mark of the power and influence which Steven Jobs has over the Apple Corporation of today.
Even though Steven Jobs will still be privy to the company's future strategy and future plans he is unlikely to have any say in day-to-day control during his medical sabbatical with day-to-day control handed over to his chief operating officer. Many competitors will be rubbing their hands in glee at the loss of Steven Jobs who has single-handedly brought Apple back from the brink on a number of occasions.
