Record immigration visas secured as unemployment grows
Despite a number of public protests from the UK government it has been revealed that in excess of 150,000 employment visas were allocated to the growing band of foreign workers in the UK during 2008. At a time when the government has been suggesting "British jobs for British workers" it would appear that more and more overseas workers are settling in the UK with the permission of the UK authorities.
This admission of an ever-increasing number of overseas workers in the UK will see massive pressure placed upon the UK government and requests to reaffirm its recent policy of "British jobs of British workers". The cost to the UK economy and the UK taxpayer of foreign workers from within the EU is enormous with many able to claim unemployment benefit even after returning home. There have also been suggestions that family tax and similar benefits are also available to visitors families, even though they may well be back in their homeland.
The UK has one of the most generous benefits systems in the world and as long as the UK government appears willing to grant employment visas to overseas visitors the more the cost of the system will balloon. It would appear that now unemployment in the UK is rising, many taxpayers are seriously concerned about the continued influx of foreign workers who many believe add very little to their local society.
