First cash for honours, now cash for laws?

A serious allegation has been made in the Sunday press regarding a number of Peers in the House of Lords and the potential for "cash for laws". While the allegation is to be thoroughly investigated by the authorities in the House of Lords there is real concern that UK politics could well be entering a new "sleaze" chapter. Those alleged to have agreed to take "cash for laws" have refuted the allegations and suggested that nothing inappropriate has been done. Will less impact on UK government?

Many people are now looking back to the John Major era when the Conservative party was severely affected by so-called "sleaze" within the party, something which saw the party's share of the vote fall markedly across the UK. While there were other issues regarding the replacement of the John Major government there is no doubt that the sleaze allegations were the catalyst for the meltdown of his government.

This evening, there is serious concern that some allegations being made about the House of Lords could see the Labour Party having to spend more time protecting its image and investigating the allegations thoroughly. This at a time in the UK economy is rock bottom, taxpayers are growing more and more concerned about their financial liabilities and Gordon Brown is literally fighting for his political life.
