Will the next banking bailout be the last?

As the UK government looks to shell out billions upon billions of pounds yet again on the beleaguered banking industry, there are concerns that more money may be required in due course if this latest bout of financial assistance is unsuccessful. However, quite how the UK authorities would be able to raise any significant amounts of future funding is very debatable as the country is literally on its knees at the moment.

Slowly but surely the figures being mentioned in the rescue packages are increasing month by month although there seems to be less certainty about the actual result being achieved. There is a growing concern that the billions of pounds already used to fund the banking sector and increase liquidity in money markets has been squandered. There are hopes that the sector will start to turn once the latest package is in place but nothing is ever certain in the environment in which we live in at the moment.

Each and every rescue package and stimulus programme announced seems to be chipping away at the population of the UK government with Gordon Brown now some 14% behind the Conservatives with his honeymoon definitely over and done with. While Gordon Brown has pulled many "rabbits out of the hat" he will need to be at his smooth best to combat the serious negative feeling which is growing across the UK.
