Are you one of the thousands of Premium Bond holders yet to claim their prize?
It has been revealed that there is in excess of £30 million of premium Bond prize money yet to be claimed with some claims going back as far as the 1950s. The largest prize is rumoured to be in the region of £100,000 with literally hundreds if not thousands of smaller prizes waiting to be claimed. Unlike the national lottery where there is a 180 day timescale after which the money goes to good causes, Premium Bond wins are held on behalf of the winners for ever and a day. So how can you check your Premium Bond numbers?
The National Savings and Investments company is very keen for those entitled to prize wins to claim their money and if you access their website at www.NSandI.com there is a simple search available which will see if your numbers relate to any outstanding wins. If you have ever had a Premium Bond it is worth visiting the website and checking to see if there is any money outstanding to you.
It appears that the vast majority of those yet to claim their prizes have moved home, forgotten about their Premium Bonds or were maybe unaware that they actually held them. In times gone by many relatives bought young children Premium Bonds as an investment for the future but even if you have lost your paperwork you can still contact the National Savings and Investments company to clarify the situation.
