Lord Mandelson receives a rebuke from the Bank of England

The Bank of England has taken the highly unusual step of responding to criticism from a member of the UK government in the shape of Lord Mandelson. The Business Secretary has been trying to pass the blame for the delay in financial aid for the UK car manufacturing industry and brought the Bank of England into play. He suggested that the Bank of England has a major role to play in the delivery of financial aid to specific sectors of the UK economy and in effect the Bank was dragging its heels in talks with the UK Treasury.

However, a spokesman for the Bank of England has refuted these allegations confirming that the UK government is the only power which has the ability to deliver the £2.3 billion package which was promised some weeks ago. Lord Mandelson has effectively brought on a war between the Bank and the UK Treasury which is most unhelpful in these difficult economic times.

Gordon Brown had been warned about the possible impact of bringing Lord Mandelson back into the fold and while initially he seemed to be towing the party line, things appear to have taken a turn for the worse over the last few weeks. Lord Mandelson seems to have become a law unto himself commenting on issues and situations which do not involve him. Gordon Brown, you were warned!
