UK police dogs to receive gold plated pensions
The Cambridgeshire police force has today come out and confirmed that they will be funding so-called gold plated pension schemes for ex-police dogs in their later years. While perhaps not the best time to announce the creation of yet more gold plated pension schemes there is no doubt that the dog loving UK nation will have little in the way of criticism for this particular move.
The scheme will only cost several hundred pounds a year for each ex-police dog and will cover the cost of vaccinations, worming, vets bills and kennel fees when their owners are on holiday. Under the current system, when a police dog reaches retirement age the handler is forced to sign a disclaimer which effectively confirms they agree to financially support the animal after its active service.
A German shepherd dog by the name of Jake and a Labrador by the name of Lennie will be the first ex-police dogs to benefit from the gold plated dog pension scheme when they receive their monthly income later this year. In a period of doom and gloom for the UK pensions sector perhaps this will put a short-term smile on the face of many UK taxpayers?
