Student flats scam proving a disaster
While the life of a student can be one of small budgets and wafer thin expenses, an ongoing student flats scam is proving a disaster for many. Fraudsters are using the Internet to attract students to "cheap properties" and asking them to forward their bank details or send money to secure a deal for the property. However, many students have found out these properties do not actually exist and when they try and trace those who have taken their money they have also vanished into thin air.
This is just a re-hash of earlier scams which have hit many different areas of the UK economy and ultimately tend to prey on those looking for value for money and with little money to spend. If you see an advert where there is no telephone number, no address and the e-mail address is a free one such as Hotmail.com then you should start to be concerned. Any decent landlord will offer a full address and full contact details for those looking at properties and ultimately you can actually check to see that any properties and the landlord in question do exist.
While we keep repeating this particular phrase, if it looks too good to be true then it probably is too good to be true!
