The Labour Party attacks Conservative housing policy
In a startling revelation, the UK government has today issued what it claims are secret plans by the Conservative party to "triple social housing rent". In what is most certainly a concerted attack by the Labour hierarchy, a number of accusations were aimed at David Cameron today suggesting that UK social housing will be drastically reduced under a Conservative party and in fact the Conservatives are in talks with a French property company about spinning off a number of UK housing estates.
While there is no doubt that we will see a number of false accusations and smears in the run-up to the next general election it is interesting that the Conservative party has yet to comment upon the claims made by Housing Minister John Healey. However, with the Conservative party conference just around the corner it is highly unlikely that David Cameron will feel at all obliged to answer any UK government accusations at a time when the UK government is effectively decimating itself.
That said, there is no doubt that a number of Tory party policies which would come into play if the Conservatives win the next election will not be popular with many Labour Party voters. Whether the likes of Gordon Brown are using these issues to reclaim the middle ground and pull back potential swing voters remains to be seen but this is most certainly only round one!
