Report Shows That Bungalows Are Holding Their Value

While they may be the butt of many a joke, they may be seen as homes for the elderly but the humble bungalow looks set to fair much better than traditional housing in the current market turmoil. Figures from the Communities and Local Government (CLG) confirm that bungalows have kept their value better than most, showing a mere 0.6% drop in value over the last few months, where as semi-detached homes have fallen by 1.5% and flats by 2.9%.

The main factor for the performance seems to be the lack of supply to the bungalow market with many house builders preferring to go for the higher priced tickets, which are unfortunately the ones which suffer most in troubled markets. While bungalows are more expensive per square foot to build there is still demand for this type of housing in the UK.

Originally bungalows were seen as central to the older market but recently more and more families have taken an interest. It seems that one floor dwellings and often spacious gardens are growing in popularity. Whether we will see a major increase in supply to the bungalow market remains to be seen but the current market conditions are throwing up some strange facts and figures.
