NatWest Customers affected by another System failure
Customers of Natwest, the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Ulster Bank have been hot by another system failure which left them without access to their money.
Online and telephone banking systems were affected as well as customers’ ability to withdraw cash and make payments using their cards. This comes less than a year after a more major failure in NatWest banking systems, which led to a widespread loss in confidence in the banks.
NatWest took to Twitter last night in a bid to communicate with affected customers, Tweeting: “We are aware of the problems our customers are having and apologise, we will provide more information as soon as we have it”
However this did little to calm down irate customers who responded insistently. Twitter user Andrew Bissett said: “@NatWest_Help Disgraceful service. Am moving my banking to Santander! You cannot be trusted with our money!!
This comes after a similar, but far more major system failure, in June 2012. A software update was corrupted and customers were left without their basic banking services. Some Ulster Bank customers had to wait for up to three weeks for normal service to be resumed, and thousands missed crucial payments and were unable to even receive wages into their account.
While there were those who gave NatWest a second chance on that occasion, it is likely that any loyalty left towards the bank is now wearing extremely thin.
