Competition returns to the UK credit card market
There are signs of improvement in the UK credit card market with competition beginning to intensify. Recently we saw the introduction of a Virgin Money credit card deal offering 0% on transfers for 14 months but this has now been superseded. Both Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank, part of National Australia Bank, have today announced 0% transfer deals for 16 months and 0% interest on all purchases for the first three months.
This is a major increase in competition within the UK credit card market and there are hopes other participants will now follow suit. Transferring your credit card balance to a competitor offering 0% for a fixed period will, if handled correctly, save the consumer in question potentially hundreds of pounds. It is easy to forget how much money can be saved by simply transferring to a 0% deal and this offer from Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank could be timed to perfection for those in financial difficulties.
Credit card debt has for some time been a major problem within the UK as consumers continue to bury their heads in the sand and hope that the economy will recover in double quick time. This has left many consumers piled high with debt and unable to cover their monthly outgoings.
