A quarter of Npower customers complained in 2014
13/02/2015
More than a quarter of all Npower customers complained to the energy supplier last year, according to figures from Ofgem, the energy regulator.
Npower, one of the “Big Six” main energy suppliers in the UK, received 1.48 million complaints in 2014, the highest proportion of any energy supplier in the UK. This worked out at 28,000 complaints per 100,000 customers, just over 28%. This has increased since 2013, when the amount stood at 25,100 complaints per 100,000 customers.
Energy supplier British Gas, which is the UKs largest supplier, received 1.7 customer complaints. This worked out as 11.5% of its customer based, which is substantially lower than Npower.
Npower has been the most complained about energy supplier in the UK for several years, according to the energy regulator, Ofgem.
An Npower spokesman said:
"We have been working hard to improve our overall customer service.
"A recent survey by the complaints resolution body Ombudsman Services stated that energy complaints only make up 11% of all grievances they receive"
In 2011, Ofgem fined Npower for mishandling customer complaints, and in 2013 they were plagued with problems with their computer billing system, meaning at one point nearly 300,000 bills were being sent out late every month.
