Biofuel subsidy set to end, petrol prices up
Even though UK motorists are bracing themselves for a significant increase in the cost of petrol and diesel over the next few weeks, it has been revealed that the UK government is ending subsidy payments to biofuel companies in the UK. When you consider that biofuels account for 3% of petrol and diesel in the UK the extra cost after the subsidy is ended will be passed immediately onto UK motorists.
So despite the fact that the UK is only just exiting the recession it seems that motorists are yet again going to bear the brunt of UK government attempts to replenish government coffers. We have a new increase in fuel duty next month and when you take into account the fact that the cost of wholesale petrol has increased dramatically over the last few weeks, this is something of a nightmare scenario for UK motorists.
The cost of maintaining and running a vehicle in the UK has increased dramatically over the last few years with road tax on an upward spiral, fuel duty seemingly never-ending and motorists at the beck and call of the oil markets. There has been much lip service from politicians regarding the cost of motoring in the UK but so far this has been of little benefit to motorists.
