Orange transfers fixed line network to BT
In a move which many believe could be replicated by other UK broadband providers it was today revealed that Orange Broadband has effectively transferred control of its fixed line network to BT. The move has also seen a number of former Orange Broadband employees transferred to BT as the company looks to concentrate upon customer service and customer numbers together with improving reliability and broadband speeds.
This is an interesting development in the UK broadband sector where millions upon millions of pounds have been spent upgrading and introducing new networks in the UK. It would appear that Orange Broadband is now more than happy to put BT in charge of its UK fixed line network and effectively tap into BT's technical strength and technical know-how. This development will allow Orange broadband to concentrate fully on increasing broadband customer numbers and promoting a brand which is growing in popularity in the UK.
It is becoming fairly obvious that BT will play a central role in the future broadband industry in the UK and the fact that a company the size of Orange has decided to effectively outsource its fixed line network is a surprise but sensible development. Who will be next to join the BT bandwagon?
