Are you aware of your partner's financial status?
Following on from a report by Tesco Bank this morning, which showed that 29% of partners retain separate bank accounts and effectively separate financial lives from their partners, this begs the question as to whether you really know your partner's financial status?
Separate bank accounts and separate financial lives are not something which was common place 20 years or 30 years ago but it would appear that more and more people are now looking to retain control of their own financial resources. There will be some who argue this is not a true partnership but there will be others who argue a degree of independence within a relationship is vital.
However, are you fully aware of your partner's financial resources and your partner's financial status? Does it really matter to you?
When you consider the vast majority of arguments within marriages, partnerships and civil partnerships tend to revolve around money, perhaps it is a little easier to understand why some people look to retain financial independence. As long as the bills are paid, there is money in the pot and hopefully little in the way of financial stress is there really anything wrong with this position?
