Why is the UK benefits system so out of control?
Since the very early years of the UK welfare state many people have been dependent on state handouts to pay their monthly bills and "get by". However, there is no doubt that over the last 20 years there has been a massive increase in the number of benefit claimants in the UK and these figures are moving higher and higher each year. So why has the UK benefit system moved so much out of control?
Many believe it is the ever-growing difference between the "haves and the have-nots" as well as the ever-growing cost of living which has polarised the UK population so much. The very fact that many people are actually "better off" on benefits rather than moving into part-time or even full-time employment is a situation which nobody had predicted in the past. It is the ever complicated UK benefit system which is causing these problems as add-on benefits and allowances continue to grow.
Quite how David Cameron will whittle down the benefit system to the bare-bones remains to be seen because it is near impossible to do this without upsetting a significant percentage of the UK population. So will David Cameron have the bottle to follow through with his policy?
