Tesco tests drive through supermarket
Tesco has become the first UK supermarket company to test the "drive-through" theory in relation to consumer spending. The service was revealed today at the company's Tesco Extra store in Baldock, Hertfordshire. This comes only days after Tesco announced plans to open up a number of supermarkets across UK airports a move seen by many as the next phase of growth by the company.
While Tesco has operated an online service for some time, the ability to literally click and collect within a pre-booked two hour period is likely to attract the attention of some shoppers. The service will incur a £2 charge although this does compare favourably to the current home delivery charges and when you consider your car will be "stocked up" by Tesco staff, there would appear to be value for money.
If this pilot service is successful we are likely to see the project rolled out into other areas of the UK and no doubt copied by the vast majority of UK supermarkets. This is yet another string to the bow of Tesco which has been very successful in introducing innovative ideas in the past. What can we expect next from the UK's leading supermarket group?
