Who will be next after Cadbury?
While it is not yet certain that Cadbury will be taken-over, either by Kraft Foods or another party, the odds on the company staying independent are lengthening by the day. Nestlé would appear to have given up hope of a potential bid for the company and other potential partners are falling by the wayside. This potentially leaves Kraft Foods with a clear road if it is willing to increase its initial offer with some analysts suggesting a bid of around eight pounds a share would be enough. But who will be next on the overseas takeover list?
The UK currency has fallen to levels not seen for some time which gives overseas investors more power and more pounds for their bucks. It is unlikely that Cadbury will be the only big name to attract an overseas bidder in the short to medium term and there is speculation swirling around the market on an almost daily basis about other potential targets. It is the fact that the UK economy is still struggling while others such as the US are starting to pull away which is also giving more power to overseas bidders.
It will be interesting to see if any new bids arise in the short to medium term and indeed how the UK government will handle a potential asset stripping exercise involving some of the U.K.'s best-known names.
