Is Sir Fred Goodwin making a comeback?

Sir Fred Goodwin, the man that many people believe was behind the collapse of Royal Bank of Scotland, is quietly starting to make inroads back into the UK business arena. It has been revealed that just prior to Christmas he took up an advisory position with Edinburgh-based architectural group RMJM and may possibly be looking for other positions in due course. So is this the start of a return to business life?

Sir Fred Goodwin spent many months in France after his UK home was vandalised and his family were threatened. In a shocking display of mob culture he was threatened, ridiculed and his name was dragged through the mud by MPs, former business acquaintances and many of the public. However, Sir Fred Goodwin was only one of a number of directors at Royal Bank of Scotland and he himself was not behind the collapse of the whole UK banking sector.

While many believe that Sir Fred Goodwin was in fact nothing but a scapegoat for the government and the regulators, it will be interesting to see how he is welcomed back into the fold which is the UK business arena. Many people are still angry at the way Royal Bank of Scotland over-expanded prior to the credit crunch although investors were very keen to back him with additional funding prior to the collapse.
