Unite union calls upon British Airways management to talk
In what many see as the latest sign that the British Airways management is winning the battle with the Unite union, union leaders have demanded British Airways tone down recent comments regarding the union and British Airways employees and get back round the table to talk. Whether Willie Walsh will take up this offer remains to be seen but there is no doubt that the relationship between British Airways and the union is now at a low point.
The fact is that both parties know the financial position of British Airways is difficult to say the least and indeed each strike day will affect the company financially but more importantly it will eat away at the company's market reputation. It will be interesting to see if the management take up this latest offer from the unions as there appears to be a definite softening of demands from the Unite union over the last few days.
It is unclear whether union members have expressed concern about the strike or whether the Unite union itself is starting to have second thoughts but changes in opinion seem to be happening. It is hoped that a strike can be averted at the last minute but those close to the situation are uncertain whether this will happen.
