IT spending set to rise as worldwide economy improves
A report by research firm Gartner is suggesting that global IT spending is set to increase by 5.3% in 2010 and will hit a figure of around $3.4 trillion. This is very encouraging for the worldwide economy as IT spending was one of the areas hit first when the worldwide recession began and businesses sought to reduce their cost bases. So what does this mean for the future?
The very fact that businesses are looking to increase their IT spending would seem to indicate more confidence in the short to medium term. While there will be a short lead time between orders being placed and equipment being delivered it is interesting to see such a move in this area. Recent figures from the UK suggest that business confidence recently touched a four-year high although there is a need for assistance from the political arena to ensure this confidence continues for the foreseeable future.
While hopes for the future have certainly improved in the UK and around the world there are still concerns in the background that any more financial shocks within Europe or in other areas of the world could dent this new-found confidence fairly quickly. We may well be approaching the clearing which is economic growth but we are nowhere near out of the woods yet.
