Is the airline industry in trouble?
As the volcanic ash cloud continues to hover over the worldwide airline industry there are serious concerns about the financial stability of some of the world's leading airline companies. While British Airways has already made public plans to claim compensation from the UK government and the European Union there are fears that many of Europe's, and worldwide, airline companies could well be in serious financial trouble and this latest saga could tip many over the edge.
Despite the fact that some UK airspace will be open today there are fears that a volcanic ash part two is on the way with further eruptions in the Icelandic area which will almost certainly lead to a similar situation hours or days down the line. It will be interesting to see how quickly the UK government and the European Union act to try and prop up the European airline industry and whether the US authorities take similar action.
It seems to be one disaster after another for the worldwide airline industry and there are serious fears today that the landscape in the sector could change dramatically over the next few days and weeks and some of the best-known companies could go out of business.
