Marc Bolland set to begin revamp of Marks & Spencer

Ex-Morrisons chief Marc Bolland will this week take up his position at Marks & Spencer in what many believe could be a new era in the history of Marks & Spencer. The company was been pulled from the depths of despair by Sir Stuart Rose but analysts feel he has taken the company as far as possible and new blood is required for the future. However, Marks & Spencer is a very different animal to William Morrison and life may be very different for Marc Bolland in his new position.

There are a number of issues with regards to Marks & Spencer including the loss of market share in the UK clothing sector. Many believe the company has failed to respond to changing market conditions and seen the likes of Next and other UK retailers grab market share by better understanding the needs of consumers. If Marc Bolland can turn around the clothing division and improve the overall profitability of the company he stands to make a significant amount of money with various share options and bonuses written into his contract.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes Marc Bolland to become accustomed to his new surroundings and indeed when we will see his first style stamp placed upon the well-known UK retailer.
