British Airways seeks strike injunction
British Airways will this week attempt to obtain a court injunction to block the 20 days of stoppages planned by the Unite union. It is estimated that the strike activity, if it goes ahead, will cost British Airways in region million and severely dent the company's reputation and financial position. It is unclear exactly what issues British Airways will use to attempt to block the strike but the company makes no excuses for exploring every avenue possible.
Despite the fact there have been hours and hours of talks between the British Airways management and the Unite union we do not appear to be any closer to a long-term solution. Both parties are fully aware that the long-term stability of British Airways is at risk but the management is adamant cost savings need to be introduced and but union is obviously looking to protect employee rights.
Despite the fact that both parties have been invited to the ACAS arbitration service the legal move by British Airways is unlikely to go down very well. When you also take into account that the airline industry is experiencing its most difficult period in living history it is easy to see why some investors are concerned about the long-term harm which the conflict may do.
