Sir Terry Leahy to leave Tesco
Sir Terry Leahy is set to call it a day at Tesco after 14 years as chief executive of the company. Having been part of the company for over 30 years he has now decided it is time to leave at the age of 55. He will retire in March next year with Philip Clarke set to step into his shoes although he will have a very big name and a very big reputation to follow!
Under the stewardship of Sir Terry Leahy Tesco has become one of the most powerful companies in the UK and has one of the most recognised brand names in the country. The company is also making inroads into the US and Asia as well as targeting other overseas markets for future expansion. This is a company which continues to go from strength to strength in the UK and indeed it is now becoming a more global business than ever before.
Thankfully the company has built up a strong backup team which will allow a natural progression from Sir Terry Leahy to the new chief executive. However, there is no doubt that Tesco will be forever associated with Sir Terry Leahy and he will not be forgotten.
