Asil Nadir returns to the UK
Asil Nadir, the controversial businessman and fugitive tycoon, is today expected to return to the UK to face 66 counts of theft totalling an alleged £34 million in relation to the collapse of his former company Polly Peck. After the company collapsed back in 1993 he fled the country on board a private jet and has since been living in Turkish Cyprus which has no extradition treaty with the UK.
This move has been on the cards for some time now with various newspapers picking up on the issue over the last few months. As part of the agreement he will rent a £20,000 a month property in Mayfair and comply with £250,000 bail conditions which have already been put in place. It is unclear why he has chosen to return to the UK although it is well known that his health has deteriorated of late with many believing that the pressure of the overhanging legal action has taken its toll.
Asil Nadir was seen by many as one of the leading entrepreneurs in the UK, building up former ladies tights company Polly Peck into an international conglomerate. However, the sudden collapse of the company gave rise to many accusations and allegations which will be covered in the oncoming court case.
