Conservative Party promises to repay Asil Nadir donations
The Conservative Party, in an attempt to prove it is whiter than white, has this weekend promised to repay £440,000 of donations from Asil Nadir if the former Polly Peck chief is found guilty of fraud. This comes amid yet more rumours that the fugitive entrepreneur, who returned to the UK to face charges from many years ago, has already done a deal with the UK government which will see him serve no time in prison even if found guilty.
It is also believed that Conservative Party hierarchy have instructed all Party members not to accept any future donations from Asil Nadir as they would attract negative press comment and leave the Party wide open to various damaging claims. While Asil Nadir has in many areas of the media already been "hung, drawn and quartered" it is easy to forget that none of the allegations made against him have ever been proven.
Indeed the former Polly Peck boss is adamant that he gave sufficient evidence to the Serious Fraud Office after the demise of the company which would have cleared his name. If the case ever gets to court, and many believe it never will reach the courtrooms, it will make potentially interesting and potentially uncomfortable reading for various MPs.
