When would you like to retire?
The subject of the UK retirement age has been in the headlines this week with the UK government loosening the regulations regarding statutory retirement thereby allowing people in the UK to work beyond their 65th birthday. But how long would you like to work before you are able to retire?
While the headlines would appear to be in favour of employees in the UK the truth is that the UK government has been forced into this particular move because of a funding crisis regarding the UK state pension and UK benefit systems. This is a situation which has been ongoing for some time and only now has a government taken the bull by the horns and decided to act. But when would you like to retire?
Amid all of the clamour to change the retirement age it is worth remembering that you are still able to retire at 65 if you are a man and 60 if you are a woman. There is no obligation to work beyond these particular retirement ages although you may well have limited access to pension fund facilities, depending upon how the UK government word these particular regulatory changes. Whatever happens, there are major changes set for the UK pension industry and the UK workforce!
