Changes in the UK property sector
A report by the Halifax has highlighted the fact that more and more people are living alone with an increase in sales of terraced houses and flats in the UK. The report has also highlighted the fact that just 19% of those acquiring properties in the UK are looking for a home which does not need any alterations whatsoever. It seems that more and more people are now willing and able to carry out their own alterations in pursuit of the "dream home" they have always hoped of.
There is no doubt whatsoever that there have been significant changes in the social makeup of the UK population and the mortgage arena in the UK. It is up to companies such as Halifax, which is one of the major lenders in the UK, to follow these trends and adjust its offerings accordingly. This is the key to success in the UK property market and something which the Halifax has been very successful at for some time.
If, as this survey seems to suggest, more and more people are now looking to live alone then this will only exacerbate problems in the UK housing market with supply most certainly well behind demand and changes in the structure and size of the UK population.
