Could David Cameron jeopardise MPs expenses trial

Harriet Harman, the Labour deputy leader, has today suggested that David Cameron could jeopardise the forthcoming expenses trials against four politicians. She is said to be concerned about David Cameron's intention to bring up the cases in high-profile speeches this week which will be used to attack Gordon Brown's handling of the affair.

There is no doubt that public opinion is very much against MPs expenses but is it really sensible for David Cameron to publicly speak and give his opinion on the affair. There is the potential to influence potential witnesses and jurors if the cases finally do go to court which would not go down well with the UK public!

The case against the various MPs with regards to alleged accounting fraud is proving to be something of a political minefield with rumours abound that they are set to activate Parliamentary privilege to avoid a court of law. Whether this is the case or not there is no doubt that the ongoing MPs expenses saga has caused great damage to the political scene in the UK. As we approach the next general election it is highly likely we will see some kind of statement from voters at the ballot box.
