Housebuilders concerned at the prospect of public sector investment cuts

A number of housebuilders in the UK have stepped forward to suggest that the next UK government should refrain from reigning in public sector investment in the short to medium term. A number of companies in the UK building sector depend upon public sector work to keep them going and if this was reduced in the short to medium term it is likely a number of companies would encounter significant financial problems. However, even the most vocal of fans in favour of retaining public sector investment levels appreciate that all areas of the UK budget will be affected in the coming years.

Over the last few days it has become apparent that voters in the UK will have a stark choice of a Labour Party which is looking to maintain public sector investment or a Conservative Party which would like to cut public sector investment as soon as it gains office. There are many pros and cons for each different strategy but the truth is that on the subject of the budget deficit and the economy as a whole we have never seen Labour Party and the Conservative Party so far apart. This will polarise voters in the next election and has the potential to create a hung parliament which would be a nightmare scenario for the political scene and for the UK economy.
