Is it inevitable that EU taxes will be introduced?
While the likes of the UK government will at some stage need to force through significant tax rises to replenish national coffers, there are growing concerns that the European Union will indeed also introduce a number of new taxes and charges for European citizens. The European Central Bank is becoming more prominent on the worldwide stage and indeed the European Union itself is also being asked a number of questions by member states who are struggling.
At this point in time there are no such charges as EU taxes, with all funding coming from member states, but there are concerns that we could see the introduction of individual EU taxes in the medium to longer term. There is no doubt that legislation is in the offing to create something of a European superstate which could challenge the USA in the longer term.
Any such creation of a European state would need to be supported by taxes and income from member countries. Rather than depending upon individual funding initiatives it is likely we will see some form of statutory EU taxes in the longer term. The cost of living in Europe is almost certain to increase significantly in the longer term but how this would be introduced and under what disguise remains to be seen.
