Will the Conservative party promise tax cuts?
A poll carried out after the recent budget has shown a significant shift in the trust factor associated with the UK economy. The poll shows that 33% of UK voters are backing Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling to look after economy, against just 27% who are backing David Cameron and George Osborne. This is a significant turnaround from a similar poll some months ago which appeared to show that UK voters were more trusting of David Cameron and George Osborne regarding the economy.
As a consequence many believe that the Tory party has now been pushed into a corner and George Osborne may well need to announce a headline grabbing tax reduction in the short term. There is speculation he is considering reversing the UK government's 1% increase in National Insurance which would save both businesses and employees in the long-term. These savings could then be ploughed back into the economy to support the job market and the UK economy as a whole, although the Labour Party will obviously have a very different view on this particular issue.
There is a growing feeling that David Cameron is slowly but surely losing control of the UK electorate and he needs to pull some "rabbits" out of the hat as soon as possible. Will he be brave enough to introduce tax cuts in the face of difficult economic conditions?
