UK government under pressure from business leaders
The UK government is today under immense pressure from business leaders who are infuriated after the UK government appeared to suggest they were pandering to Tory national insurance changes without actually realizing the consequences. A number of prominent UK business leaders have stepped forward to criticize the UK government for its proposed increase in national insurance which many see as effectively "a tax on jobs".
Alastair Darling, Peter Mandelson and Gordon Brown have all been quick to condemn the proposed reduction in planned national insurance payments if the Conservative party gains power at the next election. However, there is no doubt that the UK government is now running scared with the Conservative party claiming it can pay for the national insurance freeze simply by efficiency savings within the public sector.
While efficiency savings in the public sector are very easy way to justify any investment in the future, many governments and political parties have in the main failed to change the mindset and the growing cost of the UK public sector. The very fact that over 50% of the UK workforce is employed by the state is a fact which often comes into play as any significant redundancies will impact upon the employment figure.
