Sir Stuart Rose attacks Gordon Brown
Stuart Rose, the executive chairman of Marks & Spencer, has today hit back at Gordon Brown's dismissal of business leaders who have decided to back the Conservative party's national insurance reduction. Despite the fact that the executive chairman of Marks & Spencer is a close confidant of Gordon Brown and a member of his business Council he is not impressed by his handling of the ongoing argument.
As we have covered on numerous occasions, Gordon Brown and Lord Mandelson have been very vocal in their disdain towards business leaders who have signed letters of agreement regarding the Conservative Party's intention to reduce part of the government's planned increase in national insurance payments. This is turning into something of a political nightmare for Gordon Brown as the number of business leaders backing the Conservative party continues to grow day by day.
This is the first time we have seen a real parting of the ways between the UK government and the business arena, with many believing support from UK businesses has been vital in the three term during which the Labour Party has been in office. Unless the argument can be settled in the short-term it has the potential to cause catastrophic problems with UK voters and UK business leaders.
