Alastair Darling admits Conservatives winning initial election battle
In an amazing statement, AlastairDarling has today effectively admitted that the Conservative party is winning the initial battle in the general election. Despite the fact that the Labour Party is still highly critical of Conservative plans to reduce the national insurance increase proposed by the government, the Chancellor of the Exchequer seemed to suggest that the Conservatives have the upper hand at the moment even if he believes their figures are wrong.
Today we saw the first major fight back by the Labour Party with a forecast of tens of thousands of job losses in the public sector should the Conservatives gain power. The truth of the matter is that many taxpayers in the UK already believe that the public sector needs to be trimmed back and an admission that the Conservatives would actually do this may well be another mistake by the government.
Even if the Conservative party is winning the initial battle with voters there is still a long way to go in this election campaign and we will see many more twists and turns as we approach D-day. Complacency on behalf of the Conservative party could be an issue if they continue to maintain the upper hand in the short to medium-term.
