Who will be brave enough to cut public sector investment?
With just a few days to go before the general election there is speculation as to whether any of the major political parties will be brave enough to detail expected public sector investment cuts in the future. Despite the fact that all taxpayers and all experts in the field of politics know fine well that the cuts announced so far are just scratching the surface, not one of the major political parties has been willing to give more detail.
The Liberal Democrat party has been given some credit for giving out significant detail with regards to future cuts, the Conservative party is in second place and Labour is trailing in third. Many experts believe that the lack of a regular spending review by the UK government, which was cancelled last year, has effectively left all political parties in the dark. Nobody quite knows the full state of the UK economy, nobody quite knows what savings can be made in the public sector and nobody is willing to put their necks on the line without firm figures.
Whatever happens, there is no doubt that UK public sector services will be hit and despite promises not to reduce front-line services in the UK there will be little alternative in the long run.
