CBI puts pressure on George Osborne
The CBI has today requested a "bold and ambitious" budget on 22 June asking for government assistance while attempting to curtail any potential tax rises. In reality this is not going to happen because the UK budget deficits needs to be addressed and UK national debt is set to hit £1.4 trillion over the next five years. Against this backdrop this will not be a giveaway budget and pain will be felt in the public sector, private sector as well as by consumers.
Over the next few days we will see a number of lobbying firms pushing for their own agendas with George Osborne under pressure from all sides. However, unfortunately his hands are very much tied as to what he can giveaway and what he can do in the budget and we will certainly see an increase in tax liabilities for the UK consumer and UK business arena in the short-term. There will be no long-term gain without any short-term pain in the UK and despite public requests and demands from various parties over the next few days everybody is truly aware of this.
George Osborne also faces his D-Day on 22 June when he has the chance to show what he and his coalition partners are made of.
