Can George Osborne walk the walk?

Since taking office just a few weeks ago George Osborne has been very open in his plans to increase taxes and reduce the UK public sector budget. He has suggested an increase in capital gains tax, the potential abandonment of a plan to reduce corporation tax as well as a likelihood that he will increase VAT across the board. So can George Osborne walk the walk now he has talked the talk?

The 22 June will be crunch time for George Osborne in what will be his first ever budget and perhaps the most important in recent times for the UK economy. The truth is that George Osborne will never be able to keep everybody happy but if he is able to spread the pain of tax increases and public-sector budget reductions then potentially this could be the way forward. However, trying to find a balance between achieving his massive savings goal and also keeping the UK public on side is something which many Chancellors have tried and failed in the past.

The 22 June could well be a defining moment in the career of George Osborne and while the tension is mounting as we approach D-Day, David Cameron would appear to have the utmost confidence in his long-standing friend and cabinet colleague.
