Coalition government comes to rescue of motorists
Amid cries of hypocrisy, the UK government is today introducing new rules which will reduce the powers of local authorities to implement ideas such as a £250 a year charge to park your car at work. This comes despite the fact that the UK government continues to "milk" UK motorists through petrol taxation and petrol levies although many will welcome the move to protect motorists from local authorities.
This move by the government comes less than 24 hours after a number of local authorities in the UK expressed an interest in introducing an annual charge of £250 a year for employees to park their cars at work. There were concerns that this was the "thin end of the wedge" and if local authorities were able to "get away with" this particular charge then more would follow in due course. Consumers and businesses throughout the UK will need to be on red alert with regards to "innovative" charging structures which could be implemented by local authorities.
In many ways some of the less financially secure local authorities have been forced to look elsewhere for income as the UK government looks to reduce budgets in every area of the public sector. However, as ever, eventually it will be consumers and businesses which pay the price!
