Middle England is the new battleground
Ed Miliband, the new leader of the Labour Party, has been very vocal with regards to the so-called "squeeze middle" which in effect is the middle classes in the UK who are being squeezed by UK government spending cuts, tax rises and benefit reductions. As a consequence, many believe that Middle England will be the new battleground for future political power in the UK with Ed Miliband already making strides in this particular area.
Many believe that the new Labour Party leader is attempting to cover up his strong union ties by "supporting" Middle England but there are others who believe he is trying to widen the appeal of the "new" Labour party. Only time will tell as to which direction Ed Miliband will take the Labour Party in the short, medium and longer term but there is no doubt that the so-called "new Labour" of years gone by is dead.
It will be interesting to see how David Cameron reacts to this move to the centre ground because historically this has been the cornerstone of Tory party support and many expect it to be just that in the future. Surely David Cameron must have a strong hand with regards to the middle classes?
