Guy Hands attacks UK government's handling of the economy
Guy Hands, one of the UK's wealthiest businesspeople, has launched a scathing attack on the UK government from his billionaire tax exile in Guernsey. He believes that due to the UK government's handling of the UK economy the country could become "one of the weakest states in Europe" at a time when the UK needs to up there with the major economies of the world.
One of the reasons why Guy Hands left the UK was the government's 50% tax rate which came into play early this week - something which has seen more and more businesspeople rethink their futures in the country. There is no doubt there will be more business leaders leaving the UK if the Labour Party returns to power and Gordon Brown's recent attack on UK business leaders, who are supporting the Conservative party, has not gone down well.
The steady stream of business leaders talking out against the UK government continues to grow and there's a feeling within the Labour Party this could prove very detrimental to their chances of re-election. However, Gordon Brown will not want to be seen as some kind of lapdog for UK business leaders and it is difficult to see how he can backtrack on his recent comments and build bridges.
