Nick Clegg back on his soapbox
Nick Clegg, making full use of the razzmatazz surrounding his appearance on the recent TV debate, has today demanded that the UK government suspend Goldman Sachs after the company became embroiled in a $1 billion fraud investigation in the US. Goldman Sachs is one of the main advisers to the UK government and while nothing has been proved and no action has been taken in the UK it seems that Mr Clegg is using this to make yet another attack on the UK banking system.
However, a quick look at Mr Clegg's own background shows that he is from a banking family and perhaps not the "man of the people" many see him as today. Whether or not you agree with Nick Clegg's attack on Goldman Sachs, seeming to take an attitude that the company is guilty before proven innocent, there is no doubt that the press and the media are now listening more and more to what the Liberal Democrats have to say.
Over the last few days there have been forecasts of a fall in Liberal Democrat support at the polls but so far the party continues to outstrip the support shown for the Labour government. However, these are critical times for Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrat party.
