Post Office chain under threat
The National Federation of SubPostmasters has today issued a report on the Post Office network with claims that around 3,000 of the current 11,500 post offices could close in the short to medium term. The federation believes that an imposed wage cut will leave many post offices on the verge of collapse and impact upon many local communities up and down the country.
This situation in the UK Post Office industry seems to be a very much at odds with the UK government which recently suggested that the number of services offered to customers would be expanded to include various banking facilities. At this moment in time there is serious confusion as to the future direction of the UK Post Office network which for many people is a central part of the local community and vital for everyday life.
The situation regarding the UK government seems to flip-flop from month to month with the government only a few months ago looking to dispose of a significant stake in the operation only to do an about turn and announce increased investment. It is unlikely that we will see any concrete plans for the Post Office network released until after the election and these plans could vary significantly depending upon which party or parties is voted in.
