Guardian newspaper changes sides to Liberal Democrats
As we approach the tail end of the UK election campaign the former Labour supporting Guardian newspaper has today announced its support for the Liberal Democrat party. This is a major blow for the Labour party and has surprised many in the political arena who had automatically assumed that the Guardian newspaper was once and for all a Labour Party supporter. So what has changed?
If we take a look back at 2009 there were a number of comments from the Guardian newspaper regarding a potential change in leadership of the Labour Party and unpopular policies. Unfortunately, the Labour Party failed to take notice of comments expressed by the Guardian newspaper even after a number of former cabinet ministers stepped forward to try and pressurise Gordon Brown into relinquishing his leadership role within the Labour Party.
There is dismay at Labour Party head office tonight amid signs that former strong supporters of the movement are now shifting towards the Liberal Democrat party. Nick Clegg also joined the party today, suggesting that the general election was in fact a two horse race between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservative party. Only days ago nobody could ever have forecast the current situation we are in as we approach polling day, with the Labour Party trailing behind in third place in the vast majority of polls.
