Is it time for Britain to join the European Union?
As the UK economy struggles to come to terms with one of the darkest periods in UK economic history many are now considering whether the UK needs to join the euro zone as soon as possible. There is concern that as Europe becomes closer and euro zone members rally around each other the UK will be left on the sidelines until it becomes a fully fledged member of the euro zone with the Euro as its main currency. So is now the time?
In hindsight, if the UK was to join the euro zone it should have been before the credit crunch and the resulting economic downturn. Joining the euro zone when the UK economy is actually on its knees does not make sense as we will be impacted by the weakness in the UK currency if a conversion to the euro goes through. It makes sense for the UK economy to get back on its feet before we even consider full membership of the euro zone - something which may in due course require a referendum of the UK people.
As EU members become closer and closer there is growing concern that the UK will become more sidelined with regards to trade and financial stability.
